Center for Social Data Analytics Lecture Series presents: Javier Sajuria is an Associate Professor in the School of Politics and International Relations, Queen Mary University of London-"Measurement and interactions of political misinformation."

Dr Javier Sajuria is an Associate Professor in the School of Politics and International Relations, Queen Mary University of London. Prior to joining Queen Mary, Dr Sajuria was based at Newcastle University (2016-2017) where he was part of the Newcastle OpenLab. He obtained his doctorate from the School of Public Policy at University College London. His research interests are in comparative political behaviour, political elites, social media and politics, and methods. He is currently leading a project investigating the use of survey questions to study political misinformation and its interactions with political engagement and preferences.

Despite the wide use of survey measurements of political knowledge to study political preferences and behaviours, we have limited comparative knowledge of (i) whether the current instruments are suitable to measure misinformation, (ii) what are the most useful survey instruments to uncover both levels of political information and misinformation, (iii) what are therelationship between levels of (mis)information and political processes. This talk will borrow from results of three different research projects based in Europe and Latin America using survey data to answer these questions and introduce the theoretical and methodological debates around how can we assess the uptake and consequences of political misinformation.
